Five Things Children Need

It’s not easy raising kids these days in this crazy world.  Parents want to raise well-balanced, intelligent children.  But some parents tend to push their children to be perfect.  Instead of that, here is a list of five things that children need to grow up as well-balanced individuals.

  1. Tell your kids “I Love You.  Well, of course your love your kids, don’t you?  But how often do you tell them that?  Children need to hear the words and also feel the actions of love.  Be sure and show interest in your children as well as affection and concern.  You can never tell a child too many times that you love him.
  2. Kids need structure and limits.  Parents these days tend to be far too lenient with their children.  Parents seem to be afraid to discipline their children for fear of angering them.  But parents tend to forget that it’s their job to discipline children and teach them right from wrong.  The rules parents make and impose when a child is young is ultimately the rules he or she will live by.  Setting boundaries actually help a child become more confident as they grow.
  3. Talk to your kids.  Instead of trying to solve every problem that arises for your child, talk to her and ask questions that can help her come to conclusions on her own.  Make eye contact and really listen to your child.  Act genuinely interested in what they have to say and you’ll be surprised at what you might learn.
  4. Playtime.  Kids need time away from their parents just to play and use their imagination.  Playtime helps kids discover their talents and learn how to get along with others.  Playtime allows a child to try and fail things in private without being subjected to judgment from their parents
  5. Independence.  The way parents raise their kids these days does not prepare the children fully for adulthood.  We are too protective of them and don’t give them a chance to do things independently.  Doing things independently is important for a child because children feel confident when they are competent.
